The Revolutionary Xbox x360key

The x360Key can be a new product from the well-known Wiikey Team. Well-known for probably the most well-liked line of Wii modchips, they dominated the industry proper up until a device called the WODE came out. The WODE has been an extremly successful item becuase its bassically a hardware hack that allows you to run games from a harddrive, insteaed of your original disc. As opposed to the Wiikey team bringing out the exact same item, they have been concentrating for more than a year on doing the precise exact same factor for the xbox 360, and here it really is!

The hardware of the xK3y optical disc drive emulator for the Xbox 360 is currently unmachted. I have hardly ever had such nicely manufactured hardware laying aound here, a buddy of mine, who had a look at the xK3y, talked about well-engineered alien technologies, properly, he doesn't know it any far better, but the hardware which includes the NXP3143 ARM9 CPU, 32MB Winbond RAM (Winbond) and Lattice FPGA Chip could certainly come from outer space. All components, including the slots and the MicroSD card slot (for the included 128 MB SD card) are outstandingly properly attached to the nicely manufactured mainboard (xK3y). The display (xK3y remote) as well as the buttons, the USB port for the USB drives too as the MicroSD slot are also flawless. As for the hardware, there is certainly nothing to complain about.
Merely the external case for the xK3y remote is really a matter of taste, I'm no fan with the shiny piano black surface, but as I stated, it's a matter of taste.

x360key consists of two parts, a motherboard as well as a remote. The motherboard connects to the SATA bus inside the Xbox 360, and sits among the drive and also the Xbox 360 motherboard. x360key can be a full-fledged pc method running embedded Linux. It is capable of several points such as: Emulating the Xbox 360 DVD drive, Reading USB tough drives along with other USB media with various file systems, Updating itself as well as other hardware from USB media, Communicating with all the remote along with other external USB devices, embedded Internet server and Wifi connectivity.

The remote is a easy but stylish piece of hardware that capabilities an OLED display and three buttons. It connects to the x360key motherboard by way of a high speed USB2 connection. It also has USB for connecting USB difficult drives along with other devices. The OLED and buttons are used to manage numerous aspects of x360key. It is also utilized for browsing attached USB media devices and launching games.

The x360key team have completed every little thing they are able to to create this device ready to install. Its a solderless installation! The issue with xbox 360 drives is that they're locked to the console they are in by way of a serial number. This means that you simply can not just swap DVD drives more than without first obtaining the crucial out the original drive, and putting it within the replacemetn drive. So you will must input for key into the x360key for it to correctly emulate the drive. Now this would typically be a issue for many individuals, as expensive flashing tools are necessary to extract the important from drives, for examble, the maximus lizard is 3 on our website. The great news is that the x360key will likely be able to extract the important out of each and every compatible drive for you! This indicates which you are within the installer and you have the tools to do every little thing your self.

Checking out the video gaming device M3i Zero for DS whom home brew fanatics was yearning for

Gadget Arrival

A incredibly long anticipated M3i Zero has now arrived. A card that has been gely|greatly|very|massively|widely|really|extremely|highly|enormously} anticipated amongst the homebrew arena due to its set of features. Not only is the hardware 100 % upgradeable from the kernel, boot flash and firmware, but also the Operating system works with the very much trumpeted M3 Sakura. Once just obtainable for the Japanese. Currently translated for the western market.

This past January right after I was reviewing the M3 Real, I remarked relating to the power of the hacked multiply loader Os. This offered the end user several choices, sufficient to suit various desires of any Nintendo ds home brew hobbyist. Now i'm happy to find out these opinions were taken on board by Crew M3. The M3i stands out as the initial available retail store card that supports a Twin Boot system as standard. You can change between TouchPod and Sakura simply by pushing down the A control button on boot.

Anyways, enough with the blarney. Let's see exactly what is under the cover of the new M3i Zero.

So what is Within the Packaging.

Product M3i Zero is supplied in a shiny darker blue retail package imprinted with the M3 brand name and website address. The rear of the box details the set of features of the card and even includes a graphic illustration of the items in the box. The packaging sizing, appearance and overall finish, is exactly like the prior M3 Real.

The contents of the package are inside a regular crystal clear plastic tray. They're the following: The M3i Zero card, which is located inside a plastic case with space for your Micro sd card. This is extremely much like the cases you get along with memory cards such as Kingston and Sandisk, a tiny little USB 2.0 reader, designed with a bright M3 emblem. Sad to say the USB reader only shares the style of the Sandisk reader but not the quality. Its serviceable, however I would usually advise obtaining a good "top quality" reader in order to prevent the dastardly blight, generally known as data corruption.

The last product inside of the box is the beneficial firmware power supply cord. It's an fascinating piece of equipment. In contrast to the Supercard DSONEi product. The M3 squad currently have gone for a very different form factor in regards to energizing the flash card via USB. Instead of the whole entire card in a slot 1 adapter. They've gone for a much more streamlined but fragile design and style. On one side on the power cable is a rigid ribbon cable, much like the kind in which links the Nintendo ds touch screen to the motherboard. It inserts in to the side of the M3i Zero card. Powering the card during the flash operation.

Design quality.

Gadget M3i Zero comes in a black colored shell. The standard of plastic material looks on par with the Acekard 2. It isn't quite comparable to the previous M3 Real building, that felt sturdy and hefty. Each parts of the casing are kept together by a clip design rather than the typical sealed/miniature screws. You will find there's noticeable IC bulge on the label side of the card. The label itself is a glossy blue/white pattern having a yellow/white M3 Zero logo. The label has been placed directly on the card.

The card's "copper teeth" are not insulated by the standard raised fins. The Printed circuit board is natural green. The microSD port is placed along the side of card. The spring offers a relatively positive action and click. The populated card slot is flush with the top of the shell. Putting the card in to my Nintendo dsi was no effort. The IC bulge didn't cause any complications by scraping the sides of my well used slot 1.

In all, I believed I was pleased with the overall production of the card. Its certainly not built as a tank nevertheless it's not junk R4 clone terrain.

Installing.

M3i Zero ships as a empty card. Devoid of any firmware. Here is the blurb coming from the nice M3 guys "M3 product will not contain any copyright data and / or firmware program, however people may upgrade the application which will make M3i Zero end up being the most effective flash cart".

Here's a quite wise slice of chicanery by the M3 dudes. I suppose this can help the card's transit through several areas over zealous customs checks.

So in order to get the monster ready to go, we must flash the card's firmware with this enclosed USB power cable. Initially this looks like a tricky venture for somebody as cack handed as me. The rigid ribbon cable end of the power lead seems to be looking fragile due to the wafer skinny design and style. But alas my anxiety were allayed, as it was very uncomplicated to pop in the power cord into the side of the card. Pursuing the readme directions, I copied the most recent system software to the root of my recently formatted memory card, and the firmware dat file. Next, I joined the power cord to my Pc's USB hub. Automatically a red led started blinking from the M3i Zero's card casing. Soon after 11-25 seconds, the led stopped so I unhooked the various cable from the card. I hurriedly popped the card straight to my Dsi and shot the blighter up. Yo Presto! I was welcomed by a M3 symbol on the menu screen. Awesome! A real smooth setup.

I conducted the patented start up the card without having any Micro SD card test and the old delete a number of system files test. The M3i Zero passed with flying colours, displaying the correct error codes for every test out.

Synopsis.

Team M3 seemed to have acted on my feedback regarding the M3 Real and introduced them on the M3i Zero. They have produced the exceptional Sakura Gui onto the western european markets. Not only that, but additionally had additionally brought the 1st official double boot system for almost any flash card. This increases the power of the device by sustaining very good compatibility whilst moving ahead with the Sakura codebase via application up-dates. The ability to upgrade the kernel, boot flash and firmware just increases the blend. Doing this boosts the longevity of the device.

I would say the M3i Zero provides greatest range of important features, in both hardware/software, available today for any home brew fanatic. This card is my current system of preference for the DSi. It's the finest endorsement I can give any DS flash card. page resource: M3i Zero

Nintendo 3DS: Super Monkey Ball 3D

With the announcement that Nintendo would be releasing yet another DS, many consumers thought that there would be nothing significant that would make it worth purchasing. The Nintendo 3DS was recently released to quite high praise. There are several features that make the 3DS worth. One of the first reasons a person would want to buy this new device by Nintendo is because the 3D feature does not require the use of special glasses. While the Nintendo 3DS may be the very first portable 3D console, users still need proof that it is worth spending the money to buy.

One of the things that make the Nintendo 3DS worth purchasing is because of the new line-up of games. There are already several popular titles available to buy and many more on the way. For kids and maybe even adults, Super Monkey Ball 3D is going to be one of the most addictive games for the system. Just like the original Super Monkey Balls, users are going to have to navigate their way across the game with tilting and twisting actions. The all new graphics and game play is what makes this game much better than the other Nintendo 3DS games.

The most important aspect of the game will obviously be the 3D graphics and the way it looks to users. Many users have been concerned that since special glasses are not required, then the 3D will not be very realistic. This, however, is not true and without the glasses, the 3D looks amazing. The Nintendo 3DS gives gamers the option to control the depth of the 3D so that some games do not have to be played in 3D. This feature could potentially be the thing that keeps the new Nintendo DS from failing.

Overall, the Nintendo 3DS could possibly become the most popular gaming device on the market. Before, users had to wear special 3D glasses for viewing things on other objects, but the Nintendo 3DS takes this element away and gives users more freedom to use the system in public without looking like they are from another dimension.

X360Key Brand new USB Harddrive Loader For Xbox 360 Console

The X360Key is an Xbox 360 USB loader device and is the 1st in the world of its kind. It is produced by the exact same crew which brought us the actual WiiKey chips for the Wii. Considering all the issues that drive flashing is these days, We thinks that USB loader tools like the x360key could be the future for anyone about to securely store their particular valuable original game titles on an external hard disk travel for risk-free keeping plus fast loading. The particular x360key installs inside your Xbox 360 console or Xbox 360 Slim console and when put in there is a elegant very small external OLED remote which you link your outer USB storage units to be able to and can then flick through the game titles on your own external USB safe-keeping to then decide on and load. For that reason no more are you going to get heaps of video game dvds laying around and all your own games may be loaded from a USB hard drive effortlessly, there's certainly the massive advantage that you'll forget about need to worry about game titles getting scratched or perhaps the kids dropping these which we are all aware happens more than we would like. Addititionally there is another upside you will no longer be using the units DVD drive normally therefore will prolong the life span of the laserlight inside your gaming console substantially.

The unit installation for the X360Key is gonna be the Solderless one, this is going to be an excellent factor for people who are comfortable with having things apart however haven't stepped in to the next phase of soldering which may be a huge step even for those who are confident with building PC’s for instance. There's one downside right now which is that you'll have to have a copy of the drive key that is found in the DVD drive of your respective gaming system, to obtain the crucial out of your DVD push this usually demands special tools as an example the Maximus Lizard, Xtraxtor 2 and also CK3 PRO for instance, but as many people have recently been flashing their pushes with a custom firmware many of them have this tools and they are good along with retrieving the key away their drives.

The particular crew is getting ready to employ a function on so it can draw out the drive essential for you to then put in on the MicroSD memory provided, but there's no date on when this operate is going to be applied. Aside from the key extraction the actual x360key install should be quite hassle-free, there are many video clips online regarding how to take apart your current gaming console and we believe the team will also have quite thorough instructions round the procedure after the gadget is out in the untamed.

People familiar with your Wode Jukebox for Nintendo wii gaming console the X360Key is pretty much across the same lines, it’s a optical drive emulator, what this means is the unit is able to emulating the DVD travel inside your gaming console, every time enabled your system will discover your outer USB storage devices linked to the unit being the actual DVD travel within your console talking with the mother board. We have been really big supporters of this technology below because it comes we think with much less the process of standard flashing of the Xbox 360 DVD pushes which has a custom firmware. Exactly like the Wode Jukebox the X360Key is also operating an internal Linux kernel to be capable of supply this specific optical drive emulation, so in many ways it's a small computer on its own. It is a great thing because it signifies it will be equipped to take care of advanced up-dates to the core firmware and for whatever reason requires a pretty challenging change to the way it functions a result of change in your Xbox 360 drive firmware or perhaps motherboard firmware that the folks will be able to develop the up-date for the devices O/S that will take care of the alterations.

Another huge feature which is scheduled to be added onto the X360Key with a potential firmware update after launch is the capability to create legitimate back federal express of your original video games on to your external USB hard drive gadgets utilizing the Xbox 360 console alone, yet again this is probably the most popular features of the Wode Jukebox pertaining to Nintendo wii console and can of course be a enormous feature for the X360Key too. They haven't provided an ETA for this feature being integrated to the firmware but we'd say it will likely be within a few months of its release. At the moment people may use the common way of making copies of their original video game titles by using a Kreon drive.

P3 Has Finally Been Modded

It is real. About four years after its launch, the PlayStation 3's much vaunted security has finally been completely and unequivocally compromised. Within weeks, or even days, PS3 users prepared to pay an exorbitant premium have the option of copying just about every one games they own - and any they don't - onto harddrive, and absolutely nothing stops them from spreading them across the internet. Now you ask ,, how do Sony deal with the problem? Can new firmware updates maintain the platform holder one step ahead of the hackers?

0

As sample "PS Samurai" hardware circulates around shops and modship suppliers all over the world, further details emerge, giving us some prospect of how the system works. From that we can extrapolate the size of the task facing Sony since it embarks on what must surely be the biggest damage limitation exercise in its recent history. This attack on PStation security involves both software and hardware. A USB dongle is connected to the P3, and pressing the eject button on the console while it cold-boots causes the code on the stick to override the console's typical launch procedure. By looking at views of the XMB observed in the now numerous YouTube videos, the dongle appears to inject elements from debug PS3 firmware onto the retail unit. The option to install PKG files, available only on development and test units, now works on the retail machine. From here, the primary tool to "backing up" software is added onto the machine.

While you might not have heard of a PKG file before, the it's likely that you've installed a good amount of them on your Playstation 3. Almost every types of program you download from PSN is within the PKG container. Once downloaded, the PS3 decompresses the comprehensive data and installs it onto your PS3. On development and test/reviewer units, so-called "unsigned code" is routinely distributed on disc, via download or on USB flash drives in PKG format. The only real difference between this and a regular PSN download is the fact that code isn't encrypted, enabling easier distribution of unfinished or review copy games (only Sony's mastering labs can encrypt, or "sign" code). The fact that the Install PKG option now appears on a retail unit gives us a substantial indication as to how the new "Jailbreak" works as it's almost certainly not present in the regular firmware. It suggests that aspects of the bespoke system updates used on the debug PS3s are being injected into the memory of the retail unit. But exactly how?

There's 2 potential explanations here. For starters, whoever is behind this is extremely clever and has isolated an exploit that enables for the injection of code over the USB port. Much more likely is the fact that USB-based tools Sony uses to test and recover PS3s with corrupt firmware have been leaked and reverse-engineered for more nefarious ends. PlayStation 3s locked into "factory service mode" have already been popping up every now and again for years, and the PC-side software that runs the USB dongle was leaked a while ago.

Now it would appear that the hardware has also been "liberated" from Sony's repair and test labs. This may sound somewhat implausible, however in a world where PS3 Slim photos circulate months prior to the launch and final units appear in a Philippines marketplace, anything is possible. Besides, the identical thing happened with the tools used to service the PSP right before the PSP-2000 launch in September 2007. In terms of the make-up of the dongle itself, pictures posted online of the internals show a simple USB device - what appears like an innocuous 48-pin microcontroller chip on the tiny PCB and not much else. It's quite astonishing to think that the makers are requesting a colossal $130 for such a tiny piece of tech, and it's almost certain to be reverse-engineered, ripped off and duplicated by the Chinese mass-suppliers within days of showing up in the market.

The software side of PS Samurai is publicly available to download, installs onto a debug PS3 and throws up few surprises. It's a very basic tool that rips off each file on a game disc onto the internal HDD or else onto a USB flash drive or hard disk drive. It does appear that a few of the encryption Sony uses on the files is stripped away (hashes on encrypted files change drastically), however executable still won't work without the USB dongle in place. When selecting a game to run, the device drops back to the XMB. From here on out, we could only speculate but it's reasonable to assume that the chip then diverts all major disc functions to the device where the game-rip lies. As a considerate vehicle for piracy then, all bases are covered, but is this really a "jailbreak" in the form recently sanctioned by the US courts? The mere existence of the backup manager - supposedly coded with tools stolen from Sony - would suggest otherwise, and if the USB dongle is indeed cloned from the platform holder's own recovery tools, any pretence of legality is surely a joke.

The inclusion of the PKG installation option does indeed imply that the likes of emulators and media players could possibly be ported and installed on to the PS3. However, for now it's most likely the case that Sony's own dev tools will be needed to make any kind of useful application, adding to the legality quagmire. All told, it's a nightmare scenario for Sony - but you could be fairly sure that its response is going to be swift. We can easily fully expect a mandatory firmware update to emerge from its engineering labs within days of the firm dissecting the hack, doubtless making it useless. Damage limitation will be the key, and exactly like the OtherOS removal that Geohot's exploit brought about, Sony might be trying to minimise the physical number of consoles available capable of running the hack by effectively upgrading them out of contention.

Assuming the memory patch theory does work, the swiftness of the response shouldn't be a challenge for Sony's engineers. Changing the make-up of the modules affected might possibly be child's play for the platform holder and it would almost definitely necessitate a much higher effort on the part of the hackers to reverse-engineer the newest code and re-patch it. Additionally, on the long run, there's nothing to prevent Sony from introducing brand-new forms of encryption and execution in the process that future games boot.

However, the properties of the USB dongle itself may well be more difficult to defend against. Assuming that the device itself comes from Sony's own servicing tools, this could demand a complete, brand-new revision of motherboard to successfully defeat. The main purpose of the dongle is to restore corrupt firmware - the chances are it has to function on a hardware level that can't be touched by the updater. We've seen it before on Sony kit - the so-called "Pandora" battery for PSP that flips it into service mode operates about the same principle, and was just defeated by the platform holder when it revised the handheld's motherboard. Nothing could be done to protect the existing devices.

Unless Sony is competent at rewriting the standard low-level code for the PS3's BIOS, there's little it can do today to defeat the USB vector of attack - it's all about preventing the injected code from working. Going forward we can expect the same old cat and mouse game between hackers and platform holder to unfold, and it's not beyond the realms of possibility that in the future, Sony should be able to detect people that use the tool and rightfully ban them from accessing PSN, similar to the measures Microsoft is constantly on the undertake annually against gamers who flash their DVD drives running copied software.

The complexness of Sony's security systems suggests that it should be able to keep one step ahead, however, there is nothing to stop people using the hack to prevent firmware upgrades from going down. Indeed, the chip is believed to protect the console from executing system updates. This of course precludes PSN access, and in the fullness of time this approach will stop newer PS3 games from running as they will be reliant on software elements found only inside newer firmware. Bearing in mind that PS Samurai is retailing for well over $130, there's a very strong possibility that this could well be the most expensive and short-lived hack ever made, and factoring in the simplicity of the hardware, the very high price seems almost reminiscent of a smash-and-grab raid on users intent on piracy regardless of the purchase price. The manufacturers of PS Samurai are charging so high price because of the window of opportunity regarding exclusivity and the longevity of the hack itself is potentially very small.

Even so, the exact properties of this USB stick and how future-proof it's remain unknown. With mass-production of PS Samurai now in motion, and the first retail devices apparently set to ship prior to the month is up, Sony's engineers are doubtless gearing up for the battle to come.

NESBuckle, Metroid: Other M, and The Last Story!!!

If any of you are lucky enough to be reading this in a part of the country, or world, that isn’t hot as balls, I hate you. Seriously, it’s ridiculously hot here in Atlanta. The grass in my front yard has taken on a healthy brown hue to them; I think it may be some sort of defense mechanism to aid in the battle against The Sun. I wish I had a defense system like that, or, at the very least, a pool. It would be freaking awesome if we had a pool; but, we don’t. Well, Mrs. Mike and I did buy a freaking awesome inflatable pool on the Fourth. It would have been even more awesome had we planned properly and given the water time to warm up a bit once we filled it so that we wouldn’t have had to sit in freezing cold water as the sun set. But who the eff plans ahead like that?
I’m not Japanese, but I do like the song, “I Think I’m Turning Japanese.” It’s so choice. Something else that is equally choice is the NESBuckle. You know the ones, the belt buckle that got a heaping dose of BadAssery from an old-school NES controller. As it turns out, the owner of NESBuckle.com has decided to pass the reigns of his empire to the highest bidder. If you’ve got a price that is right (and the reserve is set at somet like $6500), then you can be the new CEO of NESBuckle. It may not be that glamorous, but he does hook you up with the domain and everything you need to keep the “official” NESBuckle alive and kicking.
While you’re waiting to see if you have a winning bid or not, why don’t you check out the videos below. There’s an awesome behind the scenes video for the Queen of Badass’ next adventure, Metroid: Other M. We’re gonna follow that up with the premiere trailer for Mistwalker’s upcoming title, The Last Story. In case you’re not in the know, The Last Story is being made by the creator of Final Fantasy, so it’ll probably be all types of epic. BTW, once you hit play and realize that the videos are in Japanese, you’ll be amazed that my “turning Japanese” statement above wasn’t totally random. Yeah, I planned that shit out son!! Enjoy, and stay thirsty my friends.

More Minii Accessories On The Way!!

If you were someone who started getting excited at the prospect of the Mini Wiimote & Nunchuck from POWER A announced at E3, then you need to hold onto your pants ‘cuz it’s about to get Mini-Crazy in this bitch!!! GAMEON, the gaming division of Impact Global Solutions, announced a full line of Minii Wii accessories that they are marketing directly towards kids. They are in fact calling them “kid-sized”, so if you’re adult-sized stay the eff away!! They are going a step further than POWER A by releasing the full gamut of Wii accessories, including a Resort Pack which includes an oar, golf club, bow, and any other accessory you may need in WiiSports Resort. I’m interested in seeing how these look and feel; but I’m more interested in the battle for the Mini Wii market that GAMEON and POWER A are about to engage. Is there enough room for both sets on store shelves? I guess that depends on how “mini” they really are. (Side-note: Yes, I know how lame that joke was, I’m the one who wrote it. You don’t think I’m ashamed of it?? I could have deleted it, but I keeps it real with you guys…)

This post is going to be a bit short since I’m still recovering from the stressful past couple of weeks, so right up there I’m giving you some pictures of GAMEON’s line of Minii Accessories. If you’re the kind of person who likes their pictures to move and make sounds, which are what I call “videos”, then check out this featurette on upcoming family party game Guilty Party. It’s a mystery game from Disney owned Wideload Games, and it actually looks pretty fun. Enjoy, and stay thirsty my friends.

Family Guy returns to games

Activision picks up Fox cartoon for gaming treatment, release set for later this year on unspecified platforms.
With the revelation that Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero would be going on an extended hiatus and True Crime: Hong Kong had been canned, Activision created some significant gaps in its release schedule. One of those gaps may be filled by the ample frame of Peter Griffin, as the publisher also confirmed today that it is readying a new Family Guy title for release this year.

The original Family Guy game didn't qualify as "freakin' sweet."
In an investor conference call today, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg acknowledged the Family Guy project in a list of the company's licensed titles set for release this year, including new installments of Spider-Man, Bakugan, and the Cabela's hunting series. According to Hirshberg, Activision sees all of the licensed titles as "strong franchises with passionate niche audiences that can achieve repeatable and profitable success."

This won't be the first time the Fox cartoon series has found its way into games. In 2006, 2K games published Family Guy for Xbox, playstation 2, and PSP. Developed by High Voltage Software (Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude, Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law), the game featured the original voice cast of the TV series, including series creator Seth MacFarlane.

Activision did not announce a developer for its upcoming take on Family Guy. For more on 2K's effort, check out GameSpot's review.

NGP will 'easily best' North American PSP sales - Analyst

EEDAR's Jesse Divnich bullish on Sony's next handheld, advises publishers to jump on board with software support early.
Last week, Electronic Entertainment Design and Research analyst Jesse Divnich offered his best estimate for the price tag of Sony's Next Generation Portable, suggesting it would clock in around $300 to $350. Today he offered a few more expectations for Sony's second portable system, specifically stating that it should "easily beat" PSP sales in North America.

Not just huge overseas?
In a note to clients and publishers today, Divnich was optimistic about the NGP's prospects, particularly in North America and Europe, where he said the original PSP had relatively low adoption rates. If Sony can ensure the NGP arrives at a competitive price and with retailer and publisher support in line, Divnich expects the NGP "to handsomely surpass sales of its predecessor."

"Observers tend to forget that the PSP was incredibly successful at launch in North America, selling more units in its first year than the nintendo DS," Divnich said. "Long-term, however, concerns about Sony's digital strategy, lack of publisher incentive and piracy, ultimately resulted in a decreasing support from third-party publishers and a reduction in retail shelf space. EEDAR believes that the aforementioned problems of the PSP era will be resolved with the NGP."

As a result, Divnich advised third-party publishers to be early adopters for the system. He pointed to Ubisoft as an example, noting the success the publisher had with its initial lineup of games for the Kinect launch.

"While MotionSports and Fighters Uncaged may not have been noticed by all observers, both titles shipped-in over 500,000 units worldwide, and generated over $47 million in revenue combined," Divnich noted. "It is clear that Ubisoft benefited by being an early supporter of the Kinect and it reinforces the early supporter strategy."

If that weren't reason enough, Divnich noted that most successful new IPs are launched in the first 18 months of a system's life cycle. With console life spans growing longer, that could make such opportunities for new IP less frequent.

Dirt 3 spinning out May 24

Off-road racing sequel hitting stores worldwide at the end of May.
The Dirt franchise has lifted Codemasters to the top tier of racing game developers, ably assisted by the well-reviewed Race Driver: Grid, helping the firm win the Formula One licence to bring the pinnacle of motorsports back to consoles after a long absence.

I feel a bit lightheaded. Maybe you should drive…

The long-standing Colin McRae franchise started life in 1998 and gained the Dirt moniker in 2007. Since then the franchise has gone from strength to strength as Dirt has moved from a serious rally sim into a more extreme motorsports festival. Codemasters today confirmed that gamers would be able to see if this trend is to continue on May 24, when Dirt 3 will be released worldwide on the playstation 3, PC, and xbox 360.

Dirt 3 looks to continue the series' move away from pure rallying with the addition of the gymkhana discipline to the event list. This sits alongside traditional rallies, point-to-point races, rallycross events, and more primarily off-road activities in a range of vehicles.

The title was first shown off in a trailer that was released in conjunction with the X Games in August 2010. For more on the Dirt series, check out the GameSpot review of Dirt 2, the latest hands-on with Dirt 3, or the developer diary below.

Tech industry is world's most trustworthy, says new survey

Who do you trust to "do what is right?" Your answer to that question will depend on how you interpret it, though we don't think there's too much room for ambiguity with the latest results from Edelman's 11th annual Trust Barometer survey. It shows the tech industry a clear 10 percent ahead of the rest of the corporate world in terms of trustworthiness, with the automotive (another favorite of ours) and telecommunications (really?) sectors following up in second and third. The results come from the polling of 5,075 "informed" members of the public from 23 nations. We reckon all the companies involved in making the business of chipmaking quite so reputable should pat themselves on the back -- unless their names are Motorola, Samsung or Sony Ericsson, those guys' failures with Android updates haven't really contributed to the credibility of their industry at all.Tech industry is world's most trustworthy, says new survey originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 04 Feb 2011 09:34:00 EDT. Michael Phelps pushing the limit on Kinect

Olympian swimmer set to make console debut this June; development handed off to Blitz Games.
A little over two years ago, 505 Games announced that it was making a game starring Olympic champion Michael Phelps. The publisher went quiet on the subject after that, but the project resurfaced today with 505's confirmation that the Kinect-enabled Michael Phelps - Push the Limit will arrive on the Xbox 360 this June.

But will players be required to flood their living rooms?
505 Games also announced a new developer for Michael Phelps' console debut. Two years ago, the publisher's own LA studio was entrusted with making the game. However, today 505 referred to Blitz Games as the developer for Push the Limit.

Blitz already has some experience working with Microsoft's motion-sensing camera controller, having released The Biggest Loser: Ultimate Workout at the peripheral's launch last year. Gamers may also recognize Blitz Games as the studio behind Xbox launch title Fuzion Frenzy and a trio of Burger King promotional games for the Xbox and Xbox 360.

Michael Phelps - Push the Limit will cast players as an unknown swimmer working up the rankings in tournaments around the world. While Phelps will assist the player with advice along the way, he'll also serve as a competitor at the culmination of the career mode, an "Annual Games" tournament featuring the best swimmers in the world.

Phelps became a household name in the US after a dominant performance in Beijing's 2008 Olympic Games. The American swimmer won a record eight gold medals at the event, breaking seven world records in the process.

Palm 'Think Beyond' teaser shows off glimpses of... something (updated with longer video)

HP and Palm aren't being shy about hyping up next week's big webOS event, and they're following up on that nod to our leak and CEO Leo Apotheker's comments with this "Think Beyond" teaser video. As is undoubtedly intended, we can't make much of the product from these brief glimpses of tapered curves, elegant switchgear, and what appears to be a charging connector -- but we'd like to think it's a tablet, because we are fundamentally very hopeful people. In any case, we'll see what Palm has in store for us next week -- and whether it can live up to all this buildup.

Update: We were just sent a longer version of the video, which we've swapped in above -- it shows a rear-facing camera and what's either a microphone or speaker grille. And is it just us, or is this thing looking pretty chubtastic or what? Original Palm video after the break. NEWS: 3D Viewing Confirmed for Pokemon 3DS

You'll be catching 'em all in a whole new dimension.
During a Q&A session following last week's Investor Conference, Satoru Iwata confirmed that he had indeed indicated that a Pokemon title is in progress for Nintendo 3DS. With such an announcement, naturally, the the prominence of the 3D was in
question. In talking to Nintendo's investors, President Satoru Iwata
said in response to a question as to whether including 3D in a Pokemon game is contradictory to health warnings for children under six years of age, "Naturally, we expect 3D viewing to become one of the attractions
when the new Pokémon title is released on Nintendo 3DS, but a number of
other attractions, which do not depend upon the 3D aspect, shall also be
realized."

Final Fantasy IV recounted on PSP April 19

Complete Collection of Square Enix role-playing game includes original Super Nintendo saga with visual overhaul in addition to The After Years episodic Wii epilogue.
In 2007, Square Enix released revamped versions of Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II for the PSP to commemorate the role-playing game series' 20th anniversary. While the publisher opted not to honor Final Fantasy III in such fashion, Square Enix is back on board for the fourth installment, today announcing Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection for the PSP.

The After Years has never been available as a retail product before.
Set for release April 19, The Complete Collection will include Final Fantasy IV--with revamped visuals to take advantage of the PSP's widescreen format--as well as its epilogue, Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. The episodic series of downloadable titles was originally released in 2009 on the Wii; this will mark the first time it has been available as part of a retail product.

Originally released in 1991, Final Fantasy IV is better known by another name in North America. Because original publisher SquareSoft hadn't released the second or third installments in the series internationally, the company decided to release the game as Final Fantasy II when it hit North America later that year.

For more on the PSP package's source material, check out GameSpot's induction of Final Fantasy II into its Greatest Games of All Time collection, as well as the review of The After Years.

Darkspore materializes March 29

Maxis announces release date for Spore spin-off; due out in Europe April 1.
At the 2010 EA Studio Showcase, Maxis lifted the veil on its latest project, Darkspore. The action role-playing game is an entirely new entry in the series, and now, it has spawned a release date.

Darkspore arrives on April Fools' Day in Europe. Hopefully EA isn't joking.

According to a
message posted on the Darkspore forums by Maxis' community manager, Darkspore will be released in North America on March 29, followed by an April 1 premiere in Europe.

Maxis is currently soliciting beta applicants for Darkspore, and those interested in sampling the title prerelease can sign up at the
beta program page.

For more on the game--which meshes character creation with Diablo-style hack-and-slash action--check out GameSpot's hands-on preview, as well as coverage of the hour-long Darkspore Comic-Con panel from July. At the panel, Maxis designers spoke at length about the title and explained, "This is not a sequel to Spore. It's not an expansion pack. It's a brand-new game."

FCC grants LightSquared terrestrial-only waiver, puts an end to LTE drama

If you've been following the drama over LightSquared's application to build a wholesale integrated broadband / satellite network, it's time to put away the tissue box and toss out the bonbons. That's right, the FCC finally approved the company's conditional waiver for an ancillary terrestrial component integrated service rule. In other words, the entity gave LightSquared the green light to offer terrestrial-only phones, in addition to satellite service, as long as interference problems are addressed before the company starts building its network. Just two weeks ago, it looked like the FCC might strike down the proposal on a recommendation from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), which warned of potential interference on the SMS network with the likes of Department of Defense Communications. LightSquared remained silent during deliberation, but following the FCC's decision, both parties gave a thumbs up to the outcome. Honestly, we could have done with a more heated back and forth, but we'll leave that to the professionals. PCs to get Kinect 'in a formal way' - Microsoft CEO

CES 2011: Steve Ballmer tells BBC that motion-sensing system will make its way to windows systems...eventually.
At his
2011 Consumer Electronics Show keynote address, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer made much of the Kinect, the xbox 360's motion-sensing system. The camera-based, controller-free peripheral shipped 8 million units last year, 3 million more than the 5 million units the company expected it to.

Kinect: Coming to the PC’eventually.

With the kinect already a hit on the Xbox 360, many people are wondering if the add-on will ever be released for Microsoft's omnipresent product, Windows. Speaking with the
BBC, Ballmer appeared to confirm that a PC-compatible Kinect will indeed be released--eventually, anyway.

When asked "Will you be able to plug a Kinect into a PC?" by the interviewer, Ballmer answered thusly: "We'll support that in a formal way in the right time, and when we have an announcement to make, we'll make it."

Microsoft isn't the only one bringing Kinect technology to PCs. There are currently numerous research projects that have created open-source Windows drivers for the Kinect, leading to such experimental creations as a Kinect-based mini-copter and a Roomba-like robot. Also, earlier this week, Primesense, one of the companies behind Kinect tech, announced it was working on a similar motion-sensing system for the PC. Called WAVI Xtion, the system is being manufactured by PC maker Asus and will be available in the second quarter of this year.

Hauppauge is taking its HD component capture card internal

It wasn't that long ago that recording HD from just about any source on a PC was cost prohibitive. Then along came Hauppauge's HD PVR and while it isn't without its issues and limitations, it gets the job done at an affordable price. One of those limitations is the rather large external enclosure and the wall-wart that powers it. Now Hauppauge has addressed those nit picks with the release of an internal PCI-E capture card for $159. The single card can record up to 1080i from either component or unencrypted HDMI and will start shipping later this month. The support is very similar it its external brother, in fact other than the form factor, the two are very similar in most every other way. REVIEW: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II Review

The Farce is strong with this one.
By and large, I enjoy the portable versions of Star Wars games. Granted, I may be biased, judging by the electronic R2-D2 that sits in the corner of my room (just next to the Yoda cut-out). Yet ever since the Game Boy Star Wars games, I have felt that the handheld renditions of Star Wars were crafted well - and yes, I enjoyed Star Wars Episode II: The New Droid Army. Star Wars the Force Unleashed II, however, is the video game equivalent of Jar Jar Binks. In his review of the Wii version of Force Unleashed II, Neal Ronaghan noted that the game was crippled by poor controls, weak storytelling, and pervasive monotony. The DS version manages to bring all the flaws of its console big brother onto the portable system, without having to shrink them down to size. In fact, with the exclusion of the Wii version's multiplayer, the game loses what Neal described as its only saving grace.
